He is Risen!
Feliz Semana Santa (Happy Holy Week) from the Duryees in Spain
As the family memory keeper, I create photobooks for each year of our life, plus extra ones when we take long trips. I’ve finished the first half of 2018, the 6 months we spent in the states waiting for our Visas, and am currently working on the second half of 2018, our first months in Spain. Reviewing the photographic evidence of God’s provision for us in Spain and remembering the uncertainty we faced and how God met our needs is so powerful! The perfect apartment in the nick of time, our residency papers after multiple trips to Madrid, our car, the kids’ school experiences, growing relationships, visitors, and ministry opportunities are just some of the things I’ve experienced anew as I sort through and lay out photos in spreads.
Holy Week is also about remembering God’s faithfulness - God's faithfulness to send a Savior to rescue people from their sin, which He promised just moments after the first humans committed the first sin. Our family usually celebrates a Passover Seder on Good Friday, but we were tired from a long hike so we watched this Tim Mackie sermon called “Jesus’ Last Passover” where he hosts a Seder on the stage at his church instead (Tim Mackie is the creator of The Bible Project). We were also super encouraged by this video of Christians all over Spain singing The Blessing, which was performed in so many languages in 2020. We also watched a compilation featuring the song in over 250 of the world’s languages. It was so good to remind ourselves of God’s sovereignty and faithfulness around the world as we contemplate Jesus’ death and resurrection. The choir from Ukraine brings me to tears.
We pray for our partners by name and would love to include you in our prayers this week even if you are not a financial partner! Will you reply to this email and share with us some ways that God has been faithful to you?
:: We have been meeting regularly with Federico and Lucia, our national partners with whom we will be working upon our return from home assignment. We are excited and humbled that we can be used to support them in the work that God is clearly already doing in their community. Keep praying for the perfect home for us - the commute from Alcalá will get old fast!
:: Recently we did a Gospel Conversations training that has excited and equipped us to share the Gospel, train others to share the Gospel, and begin discipleship with new believers. We have been practicing the training in Spanish and will be sharing it with the church in Cabanillas next month!
:: On May 23 we are both taking a B2 language exam.
:: Our children’s club will pick up again for a few weeks before school gets out, and we are hosting a Mothers and Daughters event on May 7.
